Collection  : The drug is collected all the year round. After peeling the greenish middle layer of the stem is cut into sliver or shaving, bundled and dried in the shade. The former is called "Sanzhuru" (Scattered Bamboo Shavings).

Description  : Occuring in masses formed by numerous rolled irregular slivers or in long slat shape shavings, varying in width and thickness, greenish or yellowish-green. Texture light, loose, flexible and elastic, odour slight and weak taste.Extractives: Carry out the method of determination of wate-soluble extractives (Appendix X A, hot extraction method) not less than 4.0%.Processing: eliminate foreign matter, cut into sections or crumple up the drug into small masses.

Identification  :

Processing  : stir fry the clean Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam as described under the method for stir-frying with ginger juice (Appendix ll D) until it becomes yellow.

Action  : To remove heat, to resolve phlegm, to relieve restlessness and to arrest vomiting.

Indication  : cough due to heat and phlegm; restlessness, vomiting, palpitation and insomnia caused by excess fire in the gallbladder, stroke with impairment of consciousness; stiff tongue vomiting due to heat in the stomach; hyperemesis gravidarum; threatened abortion

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 4.5 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place , protected from mould and moth.
