Collection  : The drug is collected from May to July, removed from soil, dried in the sun and then removed from fibrous root and outerbark.

Description  : Bulbs of Fritillaria Walujeweii, oblate 0.5-1.5cm high, externally whitish and smooth, the outer scale leaves 2, crescent, plump and fleshy, almost uniform in size and close together. Apex spread and open out, base rounded and obtuse with relatively larger scale leaf, remains of stem and a bud inside. Texture: hard and fragile, fracture white, starchy. Odor: slight, taste: slightly bitter.

Identification  : 1.Powder: whitish, mainly consisting of starch granules.Bulbs of Fritillaria Walujewii, starch granules, simple broadly ovoid, ovoid or conchoidal, 5-54µm in diameter, hilum pointed, V shape or shortly slit-shaped, striation distinct, compound granules less fo 2 components. Epidermal cells subrectangular with sinous anticlinal walls containing samll prismms of calcium oxalate. Stomata anomosytic with 4-6 subsidiary cells, spiral and annular vessels 9-56µm in diameter.Bulbs of Fritillaria Pallidiflorae: starch granules simple, broadly ovoid, triangular ovoid, conchoidal or irregularly rounded up to 60µm in diameter, hilum pointed, V shape or crossed. Vessels about 50µm in diameter.2.Five grams of the powder, add 2ml of concentrated ammonia TS and 20ml of chloroform, shake, allow to stand over night, filter and evaporate the filtrate to dryness. Dissolve the residue in 0.5ml of chloroform as the test solution.. Prepare of solution of 5g of Bulbus Fritillarae Pallidiflorae reference drug in the same manner as the reference drug solution. Dissolve sipeimine CRS in chloroform to produced a solution containing 0.5mg per ml as the reference solution. Carry out the method for thin layer chromatography (Appendix Vl B), using silica gel G prepared with 2% sodium hydroxide solution as the coating substance and the lower layer of chloroform-ethyl acetate-methanol-water (40:40:15:10) standing below 10ºC as the mobile phase. Apply separately to the plate 2-4µl of each of the three solutions. After developing and removal of the plate, dry it in the air and spray with dilute potassium iodobismuthate TS and sodium nitrate TS successively. The spots in the chromatogram obtained with the test solution correspond in position and color of the spots on the chromatogram obtained with the reference drug solution. The brown spot on the chromatogram obtained with the test solution corresponds in the position and color to the spot in the chromatogram obtained with the reference solution.

Precautions  : Incompatible with Radix Aconite and allied drugs.

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated dry place, protected from moth.
