Chinese Name :
Common Name :Wild carrot fruit
Specific Name : Fructus carotae
Scientific Name:
Collection : The fruit branch is cut in autumn when the fruit is ripe and dried in the sun. The fruit is tapped off and removed from foreign matter.
Description : Cremocarp ellipsoidal, mostly separated into mericarp. Mericarp 3 - 4mm long, 1.5 - 2.5mm wide. Externally pale greenish brown or brownish yellow, apex bearing remains of a style, base obtuse, dorsal surface raised with 4 narrow winged subribs, each rib densely covered with 1 row of yellowish white hooks of each about 1.5mm long. The dented portion between every 2 ribs having indistinct main ribs, scattered with short hairs. Commissural surface flattened with 3 hairy veins. Kernel almost white, oily. Texture light, odor aromatic when rubbed, taste slightly pungent and bitter.Identification: Transverse section of mericarp: cells of exocarp 1 layer, parts of the cells differentiating to unicellular non-glandular hairs at the rib, hairs 86 - 390µm long. Large vittae occurring in mesocarp, 1 at the base of each subrib and 2 in the commissural surface. Vittae flattened oblong, 50 - 120µm in diameter, containing yellowish brown oil droplets, inner side of main ribs with fine vascular bundles. Endocarp consisting of 1 layer of flattened parenchymatous cells. Cells of testa containing reddish brown contents. Endosperm plump, parenchymatous cells polygonal with slightly thickened walls, containing fatty oil and aleurone grains with minute cluster of calcium oxalate.
Identification :
Processing :
Action : To kill worms, and to remove undigested food.
Indication : ascariasis, oxyuriasis, taeniasis, abdominal pain caused by intestinal parasitosis; malnutrition and retention of undigested food due to improper feeding

Identification : Transverse section: cells of epicarp 1 row each containing columnar crystals of calcium oxalate. Several rows of brown parenchymatous cells of mesocarp shrunken with indistinct bounds, fibre bundles occurring at the ribs, consisting of several tens of thickened and lignified walled fibres, 1 row of endocarp cells dark brown. Cells of testa flattened, endosperm remained, parenchymatous cells of embryo filled with aleurone grains and fatty oil droplets, the outmost layer cells of cotyledon containing finne crystals of calcium oxalate.
