Collection  : The drug is collected, scalded to death by boiling water or dried in the sun or heat

Description  : Body of Eupolyphaga sinensis, flattened ovoid, 1.3-3cm long, 1.2-2.4cm wide. Anterior end relatively narrow, posterior end relatively broad, dorsal side purplish-brown, lustrous, wringless. The dorsal plate of photorax fairly developed, covering the head, dorsal plate of the abdomen consisting of 9 segments, inbracating, ventral surface reddieh-brown. Head relatively small with a pair of filiform antenae, usually sheded. Thorax bearing three pairs of legs with fine hairs and spines. Abdomen with trnsverse segments. Texture lax and fragile, easily broken, odour, stinking and foul, taste lightly salty.Body of Steleophaga Plancyi: 2.2-3.7cm long, 1.4-2.5cm wide. Dorsal side blackish brown, usually with pale yellowish brown specks and black spots near the edges.

Identification  : Powder: greyish brown, fragments of the body wall deep brown or yellow, irregular striuation in surface view, short thick or slender thin setae usually adhered on the surface, rounded setae pits 5-32µm in diameter are often seen when the setae were dropped, setae brownish yellow or yellow, tip sharply pointed or blunt, 12-270µm long, 10-32µm in diameter, some with longitudinal straight striations, striated muscle fibers colourless or light yellow, usually broken with close transverse stripes straight or slight undulated, the light bands wider than the dark bands.

Processing  :

Action  : To remove blood stasis with powerful effect, and to promote healing of bone fracture.

Indication  :

Precautions  : Contraindicated in pregnancy.

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated dry place, protected from moth.
