Collection : The drug is collected all year round, removed from fibrous root and soil and dried in the sun.
Description : Herb of Selaginella tamariscina: Crumpled into fisted masses, 3 - 10cm long. Braches fascicled, flat and branched, green or brownish yellow, curved inward, densely growing scaly leaflets, long aristate at the apex, central leaves (ventral leaves) 2 lines. Ovate oblong, arranged obliquely upward, margin membranous, irregularly serrulate. Dorsal leaves (lateral leaves),membranous margin of dorsal surface frequently brownish black. Fibrous roots remained at the base, brown, scattered or clustered in short rods. Texture fragile, easily broken, odourless and taste weak.
Identification :
Processing : Herba Selaginellae, eliminate remained fibrous roots and foreign matter, wash clean, cut into section and dry in the sun.Herba Selaginella (carbonized): Stir fry as described under the method for carbonizing by stir frying (appendix ll D) until a charred black colour is produced externally.
Action : To promote blood circulation and to stimulate menstrual discharge. Herb Selaginellae (carbonized) : Spitting of blood, abnormal uterine bleeding, hematochezia, prolapse of rectum.
Indication :
Precautions : Used with caution in pregnancy.
Dosage : 4.5 to 9 g.
Storage : Preserve in a dry place.
