Background

Chaojiesui ³´½æËë Jiesuitan ½æËëÌ¿ Jingjiesui ¾£½æËë Jingjietan ¾£½æÌ¿ Chinese Name (pinyin): Jingjie

Chinese Name  :

Common Name  :Schizonepeta

Specific Name  : Herba schizonepetae

Scientific Name:
Collection  : The drug is collected in summer and autumn when the tops of the flowering stems are in bloom but green in color, remove from foreign matter and dried in the sun.

Description  : Stems square, branched above, 50 - 80cm long, 2 - 4mm in diameter, externally yellowish green or purplish red, pubescent, texture light and fragile, fracture whitish, leaves opposite, mostly fallen off, lamina 3 - 5 pinnatipartite, lobes slender. Spike verticillasters, terminal, 2 - 9cm long, about 7mm in diameter. Corolla mostly fallen off, persistent calyx campanulate, 5 toothed at the apex, pale brown or yellowish green, pubescent, nutlets brownish black. Odour aromatic, taste slightly astringent, pungent and cool.

Identification  : 1.Powder: Yellowish brown, epidermal cells of persistent calyx with deeply sinuous anticlinal walls. Glandular scales with a 8-celled head, 96 - 112µm in diameter and a unicellular stalk, brownish yellow. Small glandular hairs with a 1 - 2 celled head and unicellular stalk. Non-glandular hairs 1 -6 celled mostly with warty walls. Cells of exocarp polygonal in surface view with mucilaginous walls and a lumen containing brown contents. Stone cells of endocarp pale brown with deeply sinuous and closely pitted anticlinal walls. Fibres 14 - 43µm in diameter with a straight or slightly sinuous walls.2. To 0.8g of the coarse powder, add 20ml of petroleum ether (60 - 90ºC) stopper tightly shake frequently and allow to stand over night. Filter and evaporate the filtrate to 1nl use a s the test solution. Produced a solution of 0.8g of Herba Schizonepetae reference drug in the same manner as the reference drug solution. Carry out the method for thin layer chromatography (Appendix Vl B) using silica gel H as the coating substance and a mixture of h-hexane-ethyl acetate (17:3) as the mobile phase. Apply separately to the plate 10µl of each of the two solutions. After developing up to 10cm removal of the plate, dry it in the air, spray with 5% vanillin solution in 5% solution of sulfuric acid in ethanol and heat at 105ºC for 10 minutes. The spots in the chromatogram obtained with the test solution correspond in position and colour to the spot in the chromatogram obtained with the reference drug solution.Assay: Carry out the method for determination of volatile oil (Appendix X D).Processing: Eliminate foreign matter, spray quantity of water upon the drug, wash soften thoroughly, cut into sections and dry in the sun.Spica Schizonepetae: pink up the flowering stems.Carbonized: Stir fry as described under the method for carbonizing by stir frying (Appendix ll D) until its surface becomes charred blackHerba Schizonepetae (Carbonized): Stir fry the sections as described under the method for carbonizing by stir frying (Appendix ll D) until its surface becomes blackish-brown.

Processing  :

Action  : To induce diaphoresis, to dispel wind, and to promote eruption.

Indication  : common cold, headache, measles, rubella, sores at the early stage carbonized: hematochezia, abnormal uterine bleeding, fainting after delivery due to excessive bleeding

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 4.5 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a cool and dry place.
