Scientific Name:
Collection  : The drug is collected all the year round, remove from foreign matter, dried in the sun until the leaf relatively soft, piled up until the leaf turns purplish brown and dried in the sun.

Description  : Rhizomes slender, stems cylindrical or with longitudinal ridges, 10 - 30cm long, leaves basal long ovate or subrounded, 2 - 8cm long, dark green or purplish brown, apex rounded or slightly acute, entire or sparsely serrulate, edges slightly curved, the upper surface sometimes bearing white stripe along the veins. The lower surface sometimes covered with white powder. Racemes flowers, 4 - 10 or more half nodding, 5 calyx, tongue shaped or ovate oblong, 5 petals, decidous, 10 stamens, the anthers with small angles at the base, dehiscing by teminal pores, style exerted witrh a prominent ring shaped stigma disk. Capsules oblate, 7 - 10mm in diameter, 5-dehiscent longitudinally with spider-thread-shaped hairs on the edges of segments. Odour slight, taste weak and slightly bitter.

Identification  : Transverse section of leaf: Epidermal cells of the upper and lower epidermis subrectangular, covered with cuticle. Stomata visible on the lower epidermis, occurring in the inner side of the lower epidermis and 1 - 3 rows occurring on the inner side of upper epidermis. Palisade cells indistinct, spongy cells subrounded containing clusters of calcium oxalate. The rascular bundles of midrib collateral, xylem crescent shaped, phloem narrow, parenchymatous cells containing reddish brown or brownish yellow substances.Water: Carry out the determination of water (Appendix lX H, method 1) not more than 13.9%Total ash : Not more than 7.0%

Action  : To relieve rehumatic conditions, to strengthen the tendons and bones, and to arrest bleeding.

Indication  : arthralgia with weakness of the loins and knees; excessive menstrual flow; chronic phthisical cough

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 9 to 15 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place, protected from moisture.
