Collection : The drug is collected in autumn when ripe, remove from foreign matter and dried.
Description : Ellipsoidal or subspheroidal, mostly flattened, 3 - 5.5cm long, 2 - 4cm in diameter. Externally purplish red or purplish brown, shrunken, seeds sometimes visible. Apex slightly acute, fruit stalk yellowish brown, mostly fallen. Sarcocarp adhering to pericarp, forming a thin slice, easily broken, containing numerous seeds. Seeds subovoid, about 4mm long, externally reddish-purple with fine furrows and small protrusion at one end. Texture hard, kernel white, oily. Odor slight, taste sour, sweet and astringent, seeds bitter.
