Collection  : The drug is collected in winter to next spring when ripe, remove from foreign matter and dried.

Description  : Spheroidadl or flattened spheroidal, 1.2 - 2cm in diameter. Externally brown to dark green, with pale yellow granular prominences, wrinkles and 6 indistinct ribs. Fruit stalk about 1mm long. Mesocarp 1 - 4mm thick. Texture hard and fragile. Endocarp yellowish-white, hard kernel-like, showing 6 indistinct ribs on the surface and several vascular bundles at the upper part of dorsal suture, cracking to 6 valves after dried. 6 seeds subtriquetrous, brown, odor slight, taste sour astringent and then sweet.

Action  : To remove heat from blood , to promote digestion and the production of body fluid, and to relieve cough.

Indication  : heat in the blood and blood stasis; liver and gall bladder diseases; dyspepsia, abdominal pain; cough sore throat, dryness of the mouth

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g, usually made into pills or powder.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry and cool place.
