Collection : The drug is collected all year round, removed from buds, fibrous root and membranaceous leaf. It is use in fresh or dried in the sun.
Description : Rhizoma Phragmatis (fresh): Long cylindrical, some slightly compressed, varying in length. 1 - 2 cm in diameter. Externally yellowish white, lustrous, the peel loose and exfoliated. Nodes annular, bearing remains of roots and bud scars. Texture light and tough, flexible. Fracture yellowish white, hollowed, walls 1 - 2 mm thick ,showing small pores arranged in a ring. Odorless and taste sweetish.Rhizoma Phragmatis (dried): Compressed cylindrical. Nodes relatively hard, internodes longitudinally wrinkled.
Identification :
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, wash clean, cut into sections or dry in the sun after cutting.
Action : To remove heat, to promote the production of body fluid, to relieve emesis, and to alleviate dysuria.
Indication : intense thirst in febrile diseases; vomiting or retching due to heat in the stomach; heat in the lung with cough; lung abscess; urinary tract infection with difficult painful urination
Precautions :
Dosage : 15 to 30 g; 30 to 60 g of the fresh rhizome to be decocted or pounded for juice.
Storage : Preserve in a dry place for dried drug, or in wet sand for fresh drug.
