Stone cells of testa subrectangular or irregular, thin walled and with pits. Fibres long fusiform,16 - 42 µm in diameter, lumina relatively big and pit canals obvious. Vessels scalariform and spiral parenchyatous cells irregular and pitted.2.To 2g of the powder add 50ml of ethanol, heat under reflux for 30 minutes, filter, evaporate the filtrate to about 5ml, extract with two portions of n-butanol (10ml, 5ml), evaporate the combined n-butanol to dryness, dissolve the residue in 0.5ml of methanol as the test solution. Prepare a solution of Fructus Mormordicae reference drug in the same manner as the reference solution. Carry out the method for thin layer chromatograpghy (Appendix Vl B) using silica gel G containing sodium carboxymethyl-cellulose as the coating substance and chloroform-methanol-water (60:10:1) as the mobile phase. Apply separately 10 µl of each of the above two solutions to the plate. After developing and removal of the plate, dry it in the air. Spray with 10% sulfuric acid in ethanol solution, dry with hot blowing until the colour of the spot clear. The spot in the chromatogram obtained with the test solution correspond in the position and color to the spot in the chromatogram obtained with the reference drug solution.
