Collection : The drug is collected in summer, remove from soil, wash clean and dried in the sun.
Description : Usually winded up into masses. Rhizomes 1 - 2mm in diameter, externally pale brownish yellow smooth striated longitudinally. Roots slender, yellow bearing lateral fibrous roots. Stems slender, branched, greyish green with obvious nodes bearing rootlets. Leaves alternate, sessile, mostly crumpled, greenish brown when whole, narrowly lanceolate, 1 - 2.5cm long, 2 - 5mm wide, margin sparsely and shallowly serrate. Pedicels slender, flowers small, solitary and axillary, corolla tubular at the base, 5-lobed at the upper part, oblique on one side, purplish red with white hairs in side the corolla tube. Odour characteristic, taste slightly sweet and pungent.
Identification :
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, wash clean, cut into sections and dry in the sun.
Action : To cause diuresis, and to remove toxic heat.
Indication : anasarca and ascites; carbuncles and boils, snakebites, insect bites; ascites in late schistosomiasis
Precautions :
Dosage : 9 to 15 g.
Storage : Preserve in a dry place.
