Collection  : The drug is collected in autumn when the fruit is ripe, remove from the fleshy pericarp, dried in the sun then remove from the nut-shell.

Description  : Mostly broken to irregular pieces with shrunken and curved furrows, varying in size. The whole seeds subspheroidal, 2 - 3 cm in diameter. Testa pale yellow or yellowish brown membranous veins of vascular bundles dark brown. Cotelydons almost white. Texture fragile and oily. Odorless, taste sweet, astringent and slightly bitter.

Identification  : Water: Carry out the method for determination of water (Appendix lX H, method 1). Not more than 7.0%

Processing  :

Action  : To tonify the kidney, to warm the lung, and to relax the bowels.

Indication  : aching and weakness of the loins and knees; asthma and cough of deficiency-cold type; seminal emission, impotence

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 6 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a cool and dry place, protected from moth.
