Collection : The drug is collected in autumn and winter when ripe nor frozen hard, remove from foreign matter and dried or dried after steamed.
Description : Subspheroidal or flattened spheroidal , 5 - 8mm in diameter, sometimes several fruit adhering together. Identification : 1.Surface view of pericarp: Epidermal cells of pericarp polygonal, anticlinal walls slightly thickened. Peltate hairs numerous on epidermis consisting of more than 100 unicellular hairs, the terminal separated each cell 80 - 220µm long, about 5µm in diameter. The scar of the hair grouped with 7 - 8 rounded cells with slightly thickened walls. Parenchymatous cells of sarocarp containing numerous orange red or orange yellow granular contents. Bright yellow oil droplets numerous.2.To 1g of the powder add 10ml of ethanol, heat under the reflux for 10 minutes, filter. Apply the filtrate to a piece of filter paper, spray with aluminum chloride TS, examine under ultra violet light (365nm) after drying, a yellowish green fluorescence is shown. To another 1ml of filtrate add a small quantity of magnesium powder and 3 - 4 drops of hydrochloric acid, heat gently on a water bath if necessary a red color is produced.

Action : To relieve cough and promote expectoration, to promote digestion and remove stagnancy of food, and to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.
Indication : cough with profuse expectoration; indigestion, stagnation of food with abdominal pain; traumatic swelling and echymoses; amenorrhea due to blood stasis
Precautions :
Dosage : 3 to 9 g.
Storage : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place, protected from mould and moth.
