Collection : The drug is collected in autumn, the capitulum is picked up with peducle and dried in the sun.
Description : Capitulum hemispherical, 4 - 5mm indiameter, bracts densely arranged in numerous layers in the base, plae yellowish green, lustrous, densely pubescent at the upper margin. The top of the capitulum greyish white. After rubbing, numerous black anthers fine, yellowish green, unripe fruits visible, penducles slender varying in length, less than 1mm in diameter, pale yellowish green, bearing numerous twisted ridges. Texture pliable, odourless, taste weak.
Identification : Powder, yellowish green, the head of gladular hair long elliptical, 1 - 4 celled, surface bearing densely fine reticulate striations, stalk unicellular, non-glandular hairs extremely long, 2 - 4 celled, epidermal cells of seed coat flat-long-hexagonal in surface view, walls bearing derivative umbrella shaped pillar. Epidermal cells of penducle stripe-shape in surface view, surface bearing longitudinal cutin striations, stomata subrectangular. Pericarp cells subpolygonal in surface view, anticlinal walls bean-like thickened, pollen grains subrounded, bearing spiral shaped geminal aperture.
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, cut into sections.
Action : To expel wind and heat and to clear the eye of corneal opacity.
Indication : inflammation of the eye with photophobia and headache caused by wind heat, nebula
Precautions :
Dosage : 4.5 to 9 g.
Storage : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place.
