Collection  : The drug is collected all year round, tied up in small bundle after partial drying and ried in the sun.

Description  : Oblong or obovate, 12 - 30cm long, 4 - 9cm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, margins sparsely serrate and entire near base. Upper surface greyish-green, yellowisah brown or reddish brown, relatively smooth, lower surface densely yellow tomentose, nidrib on lower surface, distinctly prominent, lateral veins pinmate, petioles very short, brownish yellow tomentose. Texture leathery and fragile, easily broken, odorless, taste slightly bitter.

Identification  : Transverse section, upper epidermal cells rectangular, covered with thick cuticle, lower epidermis bearing numerous unicellular non-glandular hairs, usually curved into a V-shape near midrib, stomata visibla, palisade tissue of 3 - 4 rows of cells, spongy tissue loose, all containing prisms and cluster of calcium oxalate. Vascular bundle of midrib collateral, nearly ringed, pericycle fibre bundles, arranged in an interrupted ring with lignified walls surrounded by parenchymatous cells containing prisms, forming crystal fibres, mucilage cells and prisms of calcium oxalate scattered in parenchyma.Extractives: Carry out the method for determination of water soluble extrcative (Appendix X A) by hot extraction. Not less than 10.0%Processing: Eliminate the hairs and sparay with water to moisten cut into slivers and dry.

Action  : To remove heat from the lungand the stomach, and to relieve cough and vomiting.

Indication  : cough and dyspnea caused by heat in the lung; vomiting, fever and thirst caused by heat in the stomach

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 6 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place.
