Common Name  :Herb of Common Scouring Rush

Specific Name  : Herba equiseti hiemalis

Scientific Name:
Collection  : The drug is collected in summer and autumn, removed from foreign matter and dried in the sun or in the shade.

Description  : Long tubular, unbranched, 40 - 60cm long, 0.2 - 0.7cm in diameter, externally greyish green or yellowish green with 18 - 30 longitudinal ridges and numerous shiny warts on the ridges. Nodes distinct, internodes, 2.5 - 9cm long, with tubular scaly leaves on the nodes, the base and teeth of the leaf sheath blackish brown, the middle part pale brownish yellow. Texture light, fragile, easily broken, fracture hollowed with numerous small rounded cavities on edge. Odour slight, taste sweet and weak, slightly astringent, sandy when chewing.

Identification  :

Processing  : Removed the withered stems and remained roots, ssoray with water, soften briefly, cut into sections and dry.

Action  : To dispel wind-heat and to remove nebula.

Indication  : conjunctival congestion caused by wind-heat, lacrimation induced by irritation of the wind, nebula

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place.
