Collection : The drug is collected in summer and autumn, removed from foreign matter and dried in the sun.
Description : Stems cylindrical up to 1m long, densely covered with yellow spreading short hairs, texture slightly fragile, fractured medullated in the center, leaves alternate, leaflets 1 - 3, rounded or oblong, 2 - 4cm in diameter, retuse at the apex, cordate or obtusely rounded at the base, margins entire, the upper surface yellowish green or greyish green, glabrous the lower surface densely covered with greyish white tomenta, lateral veins pinnate, petiole 1 - 2cm long, stipules 2, lanceolate about 8mm long, odour slightly aromatic and taste slightly sweet.
Identification : 1.To 2g of the coarse powder, add 30ml of water, boil for 10 minutes, filter, evaporate the filtrate to dryness. Add 2ml of ethanol to dissolve the residue, then add a small quantity of magnesium powder and 0.5ml of hydrochloric acid, a reddish brown colour is produced.2.To 2g of the coarse powder, add 20ml of 1% hydrochloric acid solution in 70% ethanol, heat under reflux for 10 minutes, filter and evaporate the filtrate to remove ethanol. Add 5ml of waterto dissolve the residue and filter. To 1ml of the filtrate, add 2 drops of potassium iodobismuthate TS, an orange-red precipitate is produced. To another 1ml of the filtrate add 2 drops of trinitrophenol TS, a yellow precipitate is produced.
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, wash clean, cut into sections and dry in the sun.
Action : To remove damp-heat, induce diuresis and relieve dysuria.
Indication : Urination disturbance caused by damp-heat or urolithiasis with difficult painful urination; edema with oliguria; jaudice with dark urine.
Precautions :
Dosage : 15 to 30 g.
Storage : Preserve in a dry place.
