Collection  : The plant is collected in autumn when the fruit is ripe, dried in the sun, the seed is collected and removed from foreign matters.

Description  : Subspherical, 1 - 1.5mm in diameter. Externally greyish brown or yellowish brown with numerous fine projecting dot, a slightly sunken linear raphe at one end. Texture hard, difficult to break with finger, slight odor and taste weak.

Identification  : Macerate a small quantity in boiling water, a mucilage is produce on the surface, boil until the testa is broken, yellowish white silky rotary embryo is revealed. Total ash: Not more than 10.0% (Appendix lX K)Processing: Eliminate foreign matters, was, clean and dry in the sun.Stir fried with salt : Stir fry clean Semen Cuscutae as described under the method for stir frying with salt water (Appendix ll D) until the seeds become slightly convex. Externally brownish yellow, broken and slightly aromatic. A mucilage is produced on the surface after macerating the processed Semen Cuscutae in appropriate quantity of boiling water. A yellow to dark brown curved and rotary embryo is revealed after boiling.

Processing  :

Action  : To arrest seminal discharge and abnormal urination, prevent abortion, improve eyesight and relieve diarrhea by replenishing and tonifying the liver and the kidney.

Indication  : impotence, seminal emission, dripping of urine after urination, aching and weakness of the loins and knees, blurred vision and tinnitus; threatened abortion due to hypofunction of the kidney; diarrhea due to hypofunction of the spleen and the kidney external: vitiligo

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 6 to 12 g, appropriate quantity for external use.

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place.
