Collection  : The drug is collected early summer while the stromata have comne out of the ground but the spores have not ejected, partially dried in the sun, removed from the attached fibrous matter and other impurities and dried in the sun or at a low temperature.

Description  : a dead caterpillar jointed with a stromata, growing in the head of the larva. The caterpillar resembling a silk-worm, 3-5cm long, 3-8mm in diameter, externally deep yellow to yellowis-brown with 20-30 annulations, some of those near the head relatively fine, head reddish brown, feet 8 pairs, the 4 pairs in the middle relativelyconspitious, texture fragile, easily broken fracture slightly even, yellowish-white. Stromata slenderly cylindrical, 45-7cm long, about 3 mm in diameter, externally deep brown to brown with fine longitudinal wrinkles, slightly swollen above. Texture flexible, fracture whitish, odour fleshly, and taste slightly bitter.

Indication  : chronic cough and asthma; hemoptysis in phtisis; impotence and seminal emissions with aching loins and knees

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a cool and dry place, protected from moth.
