Collection : The drug is collected in autumn, removed from soil and dried in the sun.
Description : Root of Clematis hexapetala: Rhizomes short cylindrical, 1 - 4cm long, 0.5 - 2.5 cm in diameter. Roots 4 - 20 cm long, 1 - 2 mm in diameter, externally brown to brownish black, wood in fracture subrounded, taste salty.
Identification : Extractives: Carry out the hot extraction method as described under the determination of ethanol-soluble extractives (Appendix X A), use ethanol as the solvent, not less than 15.0%. Transverse section of root Exodermis cells mostly radially elongated and the adjacent 1 - 2 rows of cells with slightly thickened walls, the outer side of phloem without fibre bundles and stone cells.
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, wash clean, soften thoroughly, cut into sections and dry.
Action : To relieve rheumatic conditions, to remove obstruction of collaterals, and to alleviate pain.
Indication : rheumatic or rheumatoid arthralgia with numbness of the limbs, muscle contracture and limitation of motion; fishbone stuck in the throat
Precautions :
Dosage : 6 to 9 g.
Storage : Preserve in a dry place.
