Collection  : The drug is collected in autumn when the fruit is turning yellow, cut longitudinally into slices dried in the sun or at low temperature.

Description  : Subelliptical or ovate slices, usually wrinkled or curved, 6 - 10cm long, 3 - 7cm wide, 2 - 4mm thick. The apex somewhat wide, frequently with 3 - 5 finger shaped lobes and the base somewhat narrow, sometimes a scar of fruit stlk visible. Exocarp yellowish green or orange yellow with wrinkles and oil spots. Mesocarp yellowish white, scattered with uneven, linear or pointed vascular bundles. Texture hard and fragile but pliable when moistened, odor aromatic, taste slightly sweet then bitter.

Identification  : Parenchymatous cells of mesocarp numerous, irregular or subrounded, walls unevenly thickened. Epidermal cells of pericarp irregularly polygonal in surface view, stomata ocassionally visible. Parenchymatous cells containing numerous prisms of calcium oxalate with polygonal, rhombic or biconelike.2.To 1g of the powder add 10ml of dehydrated ethanol sonicate for 20 minutes, filter, evaporate ther filtrate to dryness, dissolve it in 0.5ml of dehydrated ethanol and use it as the test solution. Prepare a solution of Fructus Citri Sarcodacctylis reference drug in the same manner as the reference drug solution. Carry out the method for thin layer chromatography (Appendix Vl B) using silica gel G as the coating substance and n-cyclohexane-ethyl acetate (3:1) as the mobile phase. Apply separately 2µl of each of the above two solutions to the plate. After developing and removal of the plate, dry it in the air, examine under ultra violet light (365nm). A spot in the chromatogram obtained with the test solution correspond in position and color to the spot in the chromatogram obtained with the reference drug solution.Water: Carry out the method for determination of water (Appendix lX H) not more than 15%.Extractives: Carry out the method for determination of ethanol soluble extractives, hot extraction method (Appendix X A), using ethanol as the solvent, not less than 10.0%.

Processing  :

Action  : To regulate the qi of the liver and stomach, and relieve pain.

Indication  : stagnation of liver and stomach qi marked by distension and pain in the chest and hypochondriac regions, stuffiness feeling in the stomach, anorexia and vomiting

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place, protected from mould and moth.
