Collection  : The drug is collected in autumn, remove from foreign matter and dried in the sun.

Description  : Herb of Cichorium glandulosum: wholly covered with hard hairs. Stems cylindrical, slightly curved, externally greyish green or purplish with longitudinal ridges, fracture yellowish-white, hollowed. Leaves frequently broken, greyish green, leaves at the middle part of the stems pinately cleft when whole. Capitulum 5 - 13, arranged in short racene. Involucre tubular, 5 - 6mm in diameter, bracts 2 layers, the outer layer slightly shorter or similar in length with glandular hairs. Ligulate florets blue. Achenes obovate, ridged, truncate at the apex, covered with scaly airgrets, 1 - 2mm long, yellowsig h brown or brown. Odour slight, taste salty slightly bitter.

Action  : To remove heat from the liver, to stimulate the discharge of bile, to promote digestion and increase appetite, and to cause diuresis.
