Collection  : The drug is collected, remove from the remaining muscles and dried in the sun.

Description  : The carapace and plastron being connected by a bony bridge, with the former slightly longer than the latter. The carapace long elliptic, arciform, anterior part slightly narrow than posterior part, the outer surface brown or black with one cervical scutee at anterior end 5 vetebral soutes along the midline of the back, 4 symmetricaln pleural scutes at both sides of the vertebral scutes. 11 marginal scutes at each side of the margin, 2 supracudal scutes between the hindmost marginal scutes. The plastron plate like, subrectangular elliptic, the outer surface pale-yellowish brown to brown with 12 horny scutes, each with purplish-brown radiated veins, the inner surface yellowish white to greyish-white, some with slight blood stains or remaining muscles, 9 pieces of the horny plates visible after cleaning and the serated edges enlaid each other. Anterior end obtuse or truncate, posterior end with triangular notch, wing-like bony bridge "wall plate(qingban)", curve upward obliquely at both lateral sides. Hard texture, slightly stinky and slightly salty.

Identification  :

Processing  : Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, steamed in a pan for 45 minutes, take out and put in hot water, remove skin and melt by scrub brush immediately then wash clean and dry in the sun.Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis (Processed with vinegar), stir fry the clean Carapax et plastrum testudinis with sand as described under the method for scalding (Appendix ll D) until the color of the surface turns to yellowish, take out temper with vinegar, using 20kg of vinegar per 100kg of carapax et platrum testudinis and dry. Break to pieces before use.

Indication  : consumptive fever and night sweating due to deficiency of yin; vertigo, tremors, weakness of legs; forgetfulness
