Collection : The drug is collected on flowering on autumn and dried in the sun.
Description : Spike mostly flat and fleshy, cockcomb shaped, 8-25cm long, 5-20cm wide. The upper margin broad bearing folds and dense linear scales, narrowed towards the base often with remaining flat stem. Externally red or yellowish white, aggregating numerous florets below the middle. Persistent bracts and perianth segment of the florets membranous. Fruit dehiscent by lid, seeds obulate, kidney shaped, black, lustrous, texture light and pliable. Odourless and taste weak.
Identification :
Processing : Flos Celosiae Cristatae, eliminate foreign matter and remains of the stems cut into sections.Carbonized, stir fry the sections as describe under the method for carbonizing by stir frying (Appendix ll D) until it becomes charred black.
Action : To arrest discharge (bleeding leukorrhea and diarrhea) as an astringent.
Indication : hematemesis, abnormal uterine bleeding, hematochezia, hemorrhoidal bleeding, leukorrhea, chronic dysentery with persistent diarrhea
Precautions :
Dosage : 6 to 12 g.
Storage : Preserve in a ventilated dry place.

Collection : The plant is cut up or the infructescence is picked up in autumn when the fruit is ripe, dried in the sun and the seed is gathered and removed from foreign matters.
Description : Oblate, a few rounded reniform, 1 - 1.5mm in diameter. Externally black or reddish black, lustrous, somewhat raised in the middle with a hilum on the slightly dented lateral side. Testa thin and brittle, odorless and tasteless.Foreign matter: Not more than 2% (Appendix lX A).

Indication : redness of the eye and dizziness due to excessive heat or fire in the liver; nebula with blurred vision
