Collection  : The fruit is collected in autumn when ripe and the seed is gathered and dried in the sun.

Description  : Flattened ovoid or flattened reniform, 2 - 3.5cm long, 1 - 2cm wide, 0.5 - 1.2cm thick. The outer surface pale red to reddish purple, slightly shrunken, somewhat lustrous. A black eyebrow shape hilum occurred at the edge about 2cm long, exhibiting 3 white fine striations. Texture hard, uneasily broken, lustrous, 2 cotyledons. Yellowish white, oily, odorless, taste weak, bean like on chewing. Transverse section: Epidermis of 1 layer of palisade cells, 2 layers at hilum with cuticle, light bend distinct. Supporting cells of 2 - 6 layers, dumbell shape. Nutritive layer consisting of more than 10 layers of parenchymatous cells, tangentially elongated, the inner ones obiterate. Vascular bundles visible, several layers of cells of cotyledons located under testa, polygonal containinf numerous starch granules. Tracheid islet, walls reticularly thickened, bodered pits few, sub-rounded by 4 - 5 layers of parenchymatous cerlls with stellate tissue at two sides, cells stellate with large inter cellular space.

Identification  :

Processing  : Eliminate foreign matters, break to pieces before use.

Action  : To warm the stomach and check its upward adverse movement.

Indication  : Hiccup and vomiting of deficiency cold-type

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 6 to 9 g.

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place, protected from moth.
