Collection : The drug is collected in autumn when ripe, and dried.
Description : Fusiform, both ends obtusely acute, 2.5 - 4cm long, 1.5cm in diameter. Externally brownish yellow or blackish brown with irregular wrinkles. Sarcocarp greyish brown or dark brown, texture hard, kernel fusiform, dark reddish brown with longitudinal ribs, 3 loculi, each containing 1 seed. Odorless, taste of sarcocarp astringent, slightly sweet or chewing.
Identification :
Processing : Eliminate foreign matter, wash clean and dry in the sun. Break into pieces before use.
Action : To remove heat and cure sore throat, to promote the production of body fluid, and counteract toxicity.
Indication : pain and swelling of the throat, cough, intense thirst; fish or crab poisoning
