Collection  : The drug is collected in summer and autumn when ripe, remove from adhering soil and dried.

Description  : Sporophore of Calvita gigantea: Sterile base very small or absent. The remains of covering consisting of yellowish brown membranous exoperidium and relatively thick greyish yellow endoperidium, smooth, hard and fragile, falling off in pieces. Fruiting body pale bluish brown and unctuous to the touch.

Identification  : 1.Place a sample over the flame and shake slightly, the fine sparks are observed immediately after going out, much white and dense smoke is produced.2.Sporophore of Lasiosphaera fenzlii powder: Greyish brown, capillitium long, brownish, branched, interwoven each other, 2 - 4.5µm in diameter, thick walled, spore brown, globoid,4.5 - 5µm in diameter with minute spines, 1.5 - 3µm long. Sporophore of Cavitia gigantea powder: Pale bluish brown, capillitium slightly branched, rarely septate, 2.5 - 6µm in diameter. Spores pale bluish yellow, smooth or sometimes finely warted, 3,5 - 5µm in diameter Sporophore of Calvatia lilecina powder: Greyish purple, capilitium branched, saptate, 2 - 5µm in diameter, thick walled, spores 4 - 5.5µm in diameter with minute spines.3.Moisten 1g of the broken pieces in 8.ml of each of the ethanol and sodium hydroxide solution (0.1 mol/L) dry at a low temperature at 700ºC, cool. Dissolve the residue in 10ml of water, filter, the filtrates yields the reaction characteristic of phosphates

Processing  : Eliminate foreign matter and break to pieces.

Action  : To remove heat from the lung and sooth sore throat, and to arrest bleeding.

Indication  : sore throat, cough, and hoarsness of voice caused by wind-heat in the lung; epistaxis, traumatic bleeding (external use)

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 1.5 to 6 g; for external use, appropriate quantity to be applied topically.

Storage  : Preserve in a dry place, protected from dust.
