Collection  : The drug is collected in summer or autumn when the fruit turned, greenish yellow, dried in the sun or treated in boiling water for a moment and dried in the sun.

Description  : Reniform or prolate-ellipsoidal, slightly curved, 3 - 9cm long, 1.5 - 3.5cm in diameter. Externally yellowish brown with deep irregular wrinkles. Apex obtuse exhibiting a fruit stalk scar at the base. Texture hard, sarcocarp pale yellow or yellowish brown, seeds numerous, flattened and prolate-ovoid, yellowish brown or purplish brown, lustrous and linearly striated. Odor slightly aromatic, taste bitter.

Identification  : Wash clean, dry in the sun and brak to pieces before use.

Processing  :

Action  : To regulate the flow of the liver qi, to promote blood circultaion and relieve pain, and to cause diuresis.

Dosage  : 3 to 9 g.
