Collection  : The drug is collected in summer and autumn when foliage branched growing luxuriantly. Remove from foreign matter and dried.

Description  : The drug 50 - 100cm long with white hairs. The lower part of the stem cylindrical, 4- 6mm in diameter, reddish brown, the upper part square, the four sides slightly depressed, greenish brown, gloved longitudinally and ribbed, nodose, texture light and hard, easily broken, fracture hollowed. Leaves odd-pinnate, dark-green, crumpled and rolled,.Texture fragile, easily broken, leaflets of two sizes, the small leaflets interposed between the large ones at the leaf axis and the ones at the apex relatively large when whole, ovate or long elliptical, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, margin serrate, stipules 2, amplexicaul, oblique ovate. Racene slender, the lower part of calyx tubular with hook bristles at the upper part of calyx tube, 5 - lobbed at the apex, petals yellow, odor slight, taste slightly bitter.

Identification  : Powder, dark green. The cells of the upper epidermis polygonal and walls of the lower epidermis sinuous, stomata anomocytic or anisocytic. Non-glandular hairs unicellular, varying in length, walls thickened and lignified with warty and infrequent spiral striations. Small glandular hairs composed of an ovoid, 1 - 4 celled head and 1 - 2 celled stalk, a few glandular scales present, composed of a unicellular head up to 68µm in diameter, containing volatile oil drops and unicellular stalk. Cluster of calcium oxalate fairly abundant, 9 - 50µm in diameter.

Processing  : Remove remains of roots and foreign matter, wash clean, soften briefly, cut into sections and dry.

Action  : To arrest bleeding, to stop malarial attacks, to relieve dysentary, and to counteract toxicity.

Indication  : hemoptysis, hematemesis, abnormal uterine bleeding; malaria; dysentery with bloody stools; overexertion; boils and sores; pubal itching with excessive leukorrhea

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 6 to 12 g; appropriate quantity for external use.

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place.
