Scientific Name:
Collection  : The fruit is soaked in the water at an appropriate temperature and moisture until the budlet grows up to about 5mm long and dried.

Description  : Fusiform, 8 - 12mm long, 3 - 4mm in diameter. Externally pale yellow, dorsally enveloped in lemma, 5 veined with a long awn broken or fallen ventrally subtended by palea with a longitudinal furrow after removal of lemma and palae. The budlet and fibrous root grown at the base of the radicle, the budlet long lanceolate linear, about 5mm long, the fibrous root fine and curved. Texture hard, fracture white, starchy, odourless and taste slightly sweet.

Identification  : Budding rate: Carry out the method for sampling of crude drugs (Appendix ll A) taking 10g of the drug in two portions diagonally determine the amount of the budding grains and of the total grains, calculate the percentage of budding rate. The budding rate is not less than 85%.

Precautions  :

Dosage  : 9 to 15 g; for checking the secretion of milk, 60 g of Fructus Hordei Germinatus (stir-fried).

Storage  : Preserve in a ventilated and dry place, protected from moth.
